Today, we walked along the lookout trail of Victoria Falls. The Falls were brought to European notice in the 1850s by Dr. Livingston…They were categorized on at least one list as one of the seven natural wonders of the world !!! And who am I to disagree???
The Zambezi River flows over a hard rock base of basalt…But this river bed has developed cracks, over time, in spots consisting of softer limestone. The erosion has led to multiple locations and increasing depth of the Falls. Even now, geologists have identified the next location for a section of the Falls on the upriver side… We should all come back in about 20,000 years to check its progress. This process has led to Victoria Falls being higher and wider than any other major waterfall in the world.
